They start on opposite sides of a real disagreement — a bid, a byline, a set of hours, a signature — and it is never a misunderstanding a single conversation would fix.

The fight is about work and it stays about work. Nobody apologises for having been right, and when they finally come together the disagreement is settled on the merits rather than dissolved by feelings.
