The women in these books are consultants, athletic trainers, dispatchers, timekeepers, lookouts and public information officers. Each is the person in the room holding the document everybody else needs signed, and every book is partly about whether she will sign it.

There are four series and they do not cross. Nobody from Manhattan turns up in Idaho. Each is seven standalone couples, and each ends with the building still standing and the lease still ugly.
